Reed–Kellogg System (Traditional Diagramming)

Traditional sentence diagramming (developed 1877 by Reed & Kellogg) uses a horizontal baseline divided by a vertical line into subject (left) and predicate (right). Direct objects use a stopped vertical line. Subject complements use a left-slanting line. Modifiers hang on slanted lines below the words they describe. Prepositional phrases branch on a slant with the object on a short horizontal.

This tool's "Traditional" view follows these conventions as closely as a starter parser allows. The editable JSON lets you correct or explore structures manually. For full details see the Wikipedia entry and resources on the Reed-Kellogg system.
